A Workshop Built on Patience

Rungwela has been caring for watches in Phuket Old Town since 2011 — one piece at a time, without rush.

The Rungwela Story

Rungwela opened its doors on Thanon Thalang in 2011, in one of the old Sino-Portuguese shophouses that give Phuket Town its character. The name — loosely meaning "the right moment" in Thai — reflects how we think about repair work: done when it is ready, not before.

Our founder Khun Anan spent twelve years working with a watchmaker in Chiang Mai before bringing that training south to Phuket. The island's sea air and humidity create conditions that accelerate wear on watch seals and lubricants, which gave us a clear purpose from the start: help local owners and visiting collectors keep their pieces running well in a demanding climate.

Today the workshop handles mechanical movements, case and bracelet care, and water resistance work. We keep a small team, which means each watch is examined by an experienced hand — not passed between departments.

Our Approach

We do not take every job. If a watch needs work that is beyond our scope, or requires specialist manufacturer parts we cannot source reliably, we say so — and suggest where else to look. This saves everyone time and protects the watch.

Before anything begins, we inspect and photograph the piece, note its condition, and give you a clear estimate. If we find something additional during the service, we contact you before proceeding. Nothing is done without agreement.

We do not promise things a responsible repairer cannot promise. What we do promise is careful work, honest communication, and a realistic assessment of what your watch needs.

How We Work

A set of working practices we hold to on every job, regardless of the watch's value or the scope of work.

Photographic Record on Arrival

Every piece is photographed before work begins. This documents its condition and protects both parties.

Written Estimate Before Work

We provide a written cost estimate and scope before proceeding. No work starts without your agreement.

Calibrated Testing Equipment

Timing and pressure checks are done with calibrated instruments. Results are recorded and given to you with the watch.

Secure Storage

Watches in service are stored in locked cabinetry on site. We do not keep large numbers of pieces in the workshop simultaneously.

Quality Lubricants Only

We use current-generation watch lubricants appropriate to the movement type — not general-purpose alternatives.

Clear Completion Report

On collection, you receive a summary of what was done, what was found, and any recommendations for the period ahead.

Watch Repair in Phuket — A Different Kind of Service

Watch repair in a tropical environment involves particular challenges. Salt air, humidity, and temperature changes affect lubricants more quickly than in cooler, drier climates. Gaskets that might last several years in Europe may need attention sooner in Phuket. A watchmaker who understands this — and services accordingly — extends the life of a piece in ways that general estimates do not account for.

At Rungwela, we have been working in Phuket long enough to have a considered view of what local conditions demand. Our mechanical services include a humidity-aware approach to lubrication, and our water resistance assessments reflect the reality of island wear — not just laboratory standards.

We serve residents of Phuket, long-stay visitors, and collectors passing through who want a reliable place to leave a watch. Our turnaround estimates are honest, our communication is consistent, and our approach is to treat each piece as the owner would want it treated — with care and without shortcuts.
